I just got an email from Borders: - reserve the new HP and the DH and choose from one of two stickers that say "Trust Snape" and "Snape is a very bad man." What, like we can't trust him in this matter and think he's a bad person?

I bet they've had this email waiting to be sent out for months and just needed to fill in the date of the release.
They announced the release date for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! July 21, 2007.

J.K.Rowling.com has been updated to announce that the last Harry Potter Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be released on JULY 21, 2007. (Pre-order at Amazon or B&N.)

Scholastic, the US publishers, will sell the book for $34.99; it will be illustrated by Mary GrandPre, the artist who illustrated all six previous books. They will also release a $39.99 reinforced library edition and a $65 special edition at the same time. British publishers Bloomsbury said via press release that it will sell the hardcover for 17.99 GBP, and will also release a special gift edition and a joint audio book.

The news item came quickest via J.K. Rowling's site at 7 a.m, which simply read:
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be published on Saturday 21st July 2007 at 00:01 BST in the UK and at 00:01 in the USA. It will also be released at 00:01 BST on Saturday 21st July in other English speaking countries around the world.

From the Scholastic press release:
In making the announcement, Lisa Holton, President of Scholastic Children’s Books said, “We are thrilled to announce the publication date of the seventh installment in this remarkable series. We join J.K. Rowling’s millions of readers – young and old, veterans and newcomers – in anticipating what lies ahead.”

For quite a while my prediction was that they would release on July 7, 2007. Only two weeks off of that one. Aw, and just ten days off of Harry's Birthday. Man, what with the movie being released on the 13th and the book on the 21st, I am going to be so wrapped up in the Potterverse this summer.

Next to having Drew, this is the easily the most exciting thing to happen in years. Years.

And yes, it's pure coincidence that I happen to be up and online at this hour. But how cool. ;)
This is my second list of fan fic recs. My first list can be found here. My previous explanations for what I like and what I look for still apply. Feel free to suggest others.

One shots

Maps to the Stars' Homes by LizBee
"Following the war, Harry buys a plane ticket and leaves, but the memories keep following him." Non-linear narrative structure. This is one of my current favorite fics, and I defy anyone who reads it not to love it as I do.

Greeneyed Monster by Opalish
on http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2697022/1/
"During HBP, HarryGinny oneshot. Because no matter how much I love HG, that Monster in Harry's chest was totally lame." Hee. This cracked me up.

His Princess in the Tower by Fionnabhair
on http://www.checkmated.com/story.php?story=6517Written post-HBP. Taken place during Harry’s 7th year. "Brave, clever, and energetic ... not usually content to sit at home in hiding while they believe others to be in danger." Harry wants to keep Ginny safe, but is he right to ask it?

And Beggars Will Ride by Opalish
on http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2061115/1/
A boy lives in a cupboard, a strange, pale boy with green eyes and a wistful smile. Dumbledore's thoughts on Harry from PSSS through OotP. Manipulative!Dumbledore.

Couldn't keep him there
by Mad Maudlin

Compromising Positions
by velvethope
on http://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=2330
Written pre-HBP. Ginny finds herself in hot water (thanks to Draco) and Harry comes to her rescue. He realizes he has stronger feelings than he thought for our favorite red-head.

Flowers & Promises
by Velvethope
on http://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=10999

Fatalistic Fate by Firefawn
on http://fanfictionworld.net/hparchive/viewstory.php?chapterid=125945
"The soul. The last true sanctuary. It is the final thing that anyone can call their own. The marring of the pure, uncorrupted soul would surely be the largest prize for the wicked. And for one, marring the soul of the last person they love is the only way to make them understand what they have become." Totally original and not what you'd expect.

Percy’s gift by velvethope
on http://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=3234
Written for the HGFicafest on Live Journal. In the wake of Percy's death, Ginny finds out that her life is about to change. Will Harry offer to help her? Will she let him? First part is G but the rating is a definite R for part two.

Need by Opalish
on http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2532945/1/
Written post-HBP. Denial's just a river in Egypt, and she doesn't need him at all.

Starting at the end by velvethope
on http://www.simplyundeniable.com/viewstory.php?sid=547
Written pre-HBP, it’s the story of Harry and Ginny’s first kiss.

Stolen Moment by velvethope
on http://www.simplyundeniable.com/viewstory.php?sid=507
How Ginny knew what was on Harry's chest for certain.

You shouldn’t kiss me like this by deena_s
on http://deenas-fics.livejournal.com/9377.html
Written post-HBP. "I told her that night, 'You shouldn’t kiss me like this unless you mean it like that.' The pairing is left ambiguous on purpose, and I am sure everyone will have their own theories." Personally I think the guy seems more like Ron, but there's a line from the girl that sounds more Ginnyish than Hermioneish. Even so, I'm still reading it as R/H.

Completed Multi-Chapter fics

Harry Potter and the Enemy Within by Theowyn
on http://www.sugarquill.net/read.php?storyid=2375&chapno=1
Written pre-HBP. "As Harry enters his sixth year at Hogwarts, Voldemort's lengthening shadow stretches across the wizarding world and Harry is tormented by the knowledge that he alone can end this reign of terror. Worse, his mysterious mental link to Voldemort is stronger than ever and threatens to overwhelm him. Only Snape can teach him to control the nightmarish visions, but can Harry and Snape learn to trust one another, or will an old grudge that refuses to die destroy the wizarding world's sole hope of defeating the Dark Lord?" This is probably the best Snape characterization I've ever read, the story is believable, and the writing is superb. I adore this fic.

Harry Potter and the Guild of the Night
by Katling
on http://www.simplyundeniable.com/viewstory.php?sid=784 Written pre-HBP. "Harry suffers a terrible injury at the Dursleys that leaves his ability to face Voldemort in doubt. But with the help of Remus Lupin and a mysterious new teacher he has a chance to become more than he was before. Features a grudgingly neutral Snape and a Ginny who knows what she wants." Or, rather, who she wants.

It Happened One Night by Sun Devil05
on http://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=705 Written post-OotP. "Harry and Ginny make a decision that changes their lives...." Harry and Ginny care for their child at Hogwarts. Once you remove the slightly contrived beginning, it's a wonderfully written story.

Carpe Diem by Imogen
on http://www.harryandginny.co.uk/viewstory.php?sid=51 Written pre-OotP. "The Fifth Year at Hogwarts. Why does Harry have Ginny under the Imperius Curse, and what dangers does Voldemort pose for them this time?" and its follow-up Alpha and Omega at http://www.harryandginny.co.uk/viewstory.php?sid=25 "The Seventh Year at Hogwarts provides one of the most difficult decisions that Harry ever has to make, but is it enough?" And even that has three sequels (Home is Where the Heart Is which is very good, though unfinished ((boo, hiss)), Nil Desperandum, and A Pensieve Affair, all of which can be found at Imogen's website: http://www.harryandginny.co.uk/index.php.

The Year of Secrets
by Tosca
on http://www.bitchnmoan.net/fanfic/viewstory.php?sid=607 (First read Exposure, also by Tosca at http://www.bitchnmoan.net/fanfic/viewstory.php?sid=594) Written pre-HBP. "As Harry and Ginny grow into their new relationship and struggle to keep it hidden from the world, the secrets that haunt his life start to unfurl, and reveal themselves. A sixth-year fic." The sequel should be seen as very much a continuation of this story: Salvation at http://www.bitchnmoan.net/fanfic/viewstory.php?sid=619 "Possessed by her inner demons, Ginny has no one to turn to but Harry as the Second War races to its climatic end. As she suffers under Tom's wrath, Harry struggles to find a way to aid her in any way. Is there anything to save her soul before Voldemort corrupts it completely?

Lessons for Life
by Caitlin
on http://www.sugarquill.net/read.php?storyid=106&chapno=1
22 chapters. Written pre-OotP. "Dudley has written a letter to Harry, eight years after Harry has left Hogwarts. What does five-year-old Chloe Dursley have to do with Harry? Abundances of Weasley's, R/Hness, a love story, and a little something for everyone." Charming. Just charming.

The Promise Ring by The White Lily
on http://www.sugarquill.net/read.php?storyid=1103&chapno=1
42 chapters. Written pre-OotP. "In fifth year, Harry learns that Voldemort is planning to take a hostage to lure him out. For her own protection, Ginny must join him at Privet Drive, beginning a year of discovery about himself and his parents.

In-progress Multi-Chapter Stories

Another Time, Another Place, Another Life by madjh
on http://www.bitchnmoan.net/fanfic/viewstory.php?sid=1397
8 chapters written so far. Written post-HBP. "Harry never wanted the notoriety that came with being 'The Boy Who Lived'. Forced to do unspeakable things in order to destroy Voldemort, Harry runs from the Wizarding world. 15 years later, he has a life of his own making... with no magic, but the past has a way of catching up with us all.” The first chapter is rated "15 and over" for Rape and Graphic Imagery. It's not an easy chapter to read, persay, but the scene in question is over fairly quickly and it sets up the rest of the story, which is very good so far.

Cursed by Myth & Legend
on http://www.phoenixsong.net/fanfiction/stories.php?psid=55
23 chapters written so far. Written post-HBP. "For most of wizard-kind the war is over and the peace that followed is secure. Only a few who remain cannot leave the memories behind and cannot stop searching for what was lost. Canon ships." Harry’s been missing and presumed dead since the Final Battle six years previous, and everyone's been doing their best to move on without him. They're not doing it very well, though. I am completely wrapped up in this fic. I wait anxiously for each week's installment.

The Seventh Horcrux
by Melindaleo
on http://www.siye.co.uk/siye/viewstory.php?sid=10917
"The hunt for the Horcruxes begins. Harry has to decide who to trust as he moves closer to fulfilling his destiny. Will he be able to find and destroy all the Horcruxes? And at what price? Will he be able to find the strength within himself 'the Power the Dark Lord Knows Not' in order to succeed in vanquishing Voldemort? And, can he do it and still get the girl? Join Harry and his faithful friends on their quest to finally defeat a Dark Lord."

Plus, all the original ones in my last post that are STILL in-progress. Oi. I know they say patience is a virtue, but mine is definitely being tried by some of these folks...
There are some truly brilliant people out there.

Nikki and Amy - this is for you:

And these are for me (and anyone else who wants them - go here or here to download and credit appropriately):

My usual morning routine consists of heading to the restroom, feeding the cat, and then sitting down for a coupe of minutes to gather my wits about me as I start the day before I head back into the bedroom to get ready for work. This morning my gathering-my-wits period was interrupted by not one, not two, but three separate trips to clean up Scout’s vomiting. Excellent! Overall she’s doing much better than she had been in the beginning and we attribute that to the prescription food that we dole out throughout the day, but she still has days that make me doubt my abilities to care for a cat, let alone another human being. And that’s not even thinking about what my poor carpet may be going through today while I’m gone. Ew.

I found out this morming that my BIL and SIL are having Rain's birthday party the same day and time as Jamie's party for Emma. Gah! not happy about that.

Someone brought in half-full bags of dark chocolate and milk chocolate mini easter eggs. I'm wearing my tightish jeans today (I figure I might as well get as much use of them as I can now before I can't wear them anymore), and I can't yet tell if that's a very good thing, or a very bad thing. The tightness will keep me from eating the remainder of the dark chocolate bag, so that's good. But it'll also prevent me from eating the rest of the dark chocolate bag, so it's bad. Bit of a toss-up, really.

We're supposed to go to my ILs house for (non-religous) Easter brunch on Sunday, and to my mom's house for a Passover seder in the evening. Neither has told us when they're thing is going to start/end, so we still don't know if we'll be going to each or if I'll just go to my mom's and Bryan will just go to his parent's thing. Overall I'm very amused by this whole situation, and the one thing that is my saving grace for the Passover seder is that I'm no longer the youngest - I feel like a moron answering those damn questions. This year the role of the moron shall be played by my cousin Skye. I did my part last night by watching the first part of the 10 Commandments. I'm so thoughtful.

There are those (*ahem, Marie!*) who would say I read too much Harry Potter fan fiction. And that idea - as silly as I may believe it - may have some merit. But really, with conversations like this one, who can resist?

From "The Eyebrow Incident" (missing moment from HBP, Ron's point of view)

M - go read "My Sweetest Downfall". I'm all sorts of smiley after reading that, and I defy you to be otherwise. :)
There's going to be a director's commentary on the Goblet of Fire DVD release! AND IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME. I still don't understand how they could NOT include one (or more) in the other DVDs. Oh, right, now I remember - so I'll be forced to buy the re-release when they come out in another few years with better stuff: "Asked whether there might be new DVDs of the previous films with commentaries by the other directors, [David Heyman] said: "I think that is something we can look forward to in years to come. I don't think it will happen right away, but Chris is very keen and so is Alfonso." Why they weren't 'keen' on doing them just a few years ago but they are now is beyond my comprehension.

Muy, muy excellente.
The beauty of not actually making any resolutions is, among other things, that when I break what would have been each and every one of them in a single day, I feel no remorse. No one knows what they might have been, so there can be no finger pointing and snickering given the very brief nature of how long they lasted. Score one for laziness!

Plan for tonight: finishing making monstrously large vat of French Onion Soup-- while managing to not eat all of the onions during the course of their saute time, watch the "making of" features on March of the Penguins, reread the newly-posted chapter six of Seeking Ginny (can be found at http://thehiddentower.net/cseekingginny.htm and is easily the best HP fan fic I've read to date, and I've read more than I care to admit), bitch to Bryan over the fact that the freecycle person who said they would come pick up my old treadmill didn't contact me leaving me stuck with the damn treadmill until I list it again. Grump.

Ralph Fiennes is going to finish out the rest of the HP films.

USA Today has a new interview with Ralph Fiennes, in which he discusses staying under the tabloid radar, participating in a United Nations food drop, and playing Lord Voldemort. Besides talking about the way the character looks in Goblet of Fire, Mr. Fiennes confirms that he "will be doing the fifth Potter movie in the fall and hopes to finish out the series . . . And suddenly, while discussing the newest book and Voldemort's presence in it, the buttoned-down Fiennes turns mischievous. 'If I was Voldemort, would you join the Death Eaters?'"

There be spoilers ahead. Ye be warned.

... (while discussing the movies and the actors' characterizations) the Vice President of the university she works at offers to get her some lube so that she can pull the rather large stick out of her ass.

I'm just saying.
Bryan agreed to go see Goblet of Fire this weekend, which was a fairly big deal, since he doesn't like crowded movie theaters but it was a compromise - I wouldn't insist on Imax if we could see it earlier. We agreed that before we would go we would put away all of our clutter in the house, including all the crap that was strewn about still from vacation, as well as to sweep and pressure wash the front steps and to clean up the back patio, pressure wash it, and clean off all the patio furniture. We worked on the indoor stuff yesterday and the outdoor stuff today, even going so far as to add a brand new outlet to our back patio this morning (before when we wanted to plug something in outside we had to run an extension cord from our den, so this should make things much, much easier). We finished at 2 this afternoon, ate a quick lunch, and got in the car to get to the theatre by 3:00 to get tickets for the 3:30 showing. We figured that if the 3:30 was already sold out we'd just get tickets for the next one, since it was playing on 3 screens. But by the time we'd gotten there all shows were sold out through the 6:15 one. Bummer. Bryan immediately turned to me and said "Forget it. We'll see it next weekend." Gah. There are some things that are worth fighting over and some things that aren't, and this was one of those things that just wasn't worth saying anything over so we turned and left.

My 4 year old cousin has seen it and I haven't. That's just not right.

As a consolation we're about to start watching the second season of Arrested Development, which we just got via Amazon. I'm sure I'll love it, but it's no Harry Potter.
If that isn't confirmation on who R.A.B. is, than I don't know what is (short of JKR saying "R.A.B. is...").

Have you seen the high-res photo of Cedric and Cho dancing together at the Yule Ball in GoF located at http://www.harrypotter-xperts.de/index.php?page=1&id=2503&shash=832086a8d309213bff503cd1dc3ec55d ? It's huge so it might take a few seconds to load, but it's SO worth seeing. Also, check out Snape watching Hermione and Krum dancing in the background. Why would he be watching them?

Can't wait for this movie to be released.
I can't believe how behind the times I am. Not one but TWO Harry Potter trailers have come out in the last few weeks and I didn't know about it until now. Bastards. They're both very good. And mostly different from each other, so I'm very happy. November. November. November.

mms://nv.sina.com.cn/ent/2005/09/16486145.wmv (it's a Windows Media File, if you paste it into your browser and hit enter WMP will come up and play it)

And I just finished downloading all of the podcasts from Mugglenet and T-L-C last night so I'm going to start listening to those tonight after work.

Happy Lindsay.

Hot daaaaaaayum. New Goblet of Fire movie posters.

Harry & Moody
Fleur & Ron
Cedric & Cho
Hermione & Victor

Immediate thoughts:

1) Don't these look so very EPIC?
2) I love the outfit they've got Harry in. Very disheveled looking. First task pose if I'm not mistaken.
3) Ron still looks like he's mugging for the camera. The movies make him look like all he does is fret. I hate that.
4) It would be nice if Fleur's robes looked a tad less HP/Star Trek/track suit fusion. But I've seen shots of her wearing other robes in the movie - perhaps these are specific to the first task (flame proof)? ARE those even robes, for that matter?
5) Could the guy playing Cedric be ANY hotter?
6) Why do Cedric's robes have under-fabric of green and not yellow
7) The maze in back of Cedric/Cho looks awesome. Much cooler than I'd been picturing it in my mind.
8)I want to know how Victor's going to pull off the duck-footed walk.
9) Hermione's so pretty. Love her.
10) They've essentially paired all the champions with their love interests. All except Harry... who they paired with MOODY. WTF?

HBP spoilers. YES, AGAIN. This time the subject up for discussion is horcruxes.

A fairly detailed discussion of what I think the horcruxes are and why )

Enjoy. :)

for the record, I'm leaving my HP discussions public because some of the things I've been writing are things I'm referencing elsewhere... You're welcome to direct anyone else here, too, if you like.

If you thought my Harry Potter ramblings were over now that HBP was released, you're very, very wrong. AS IF. Consider this a warning in perpetuity: Spoilers included.

Harry and Ginny )

Two more years to wait. Cruel.

My take on issues this book presents. I'm warning you: it's LONG and it's CHOCK FULL of spoilers. No really - LOTS OF SPOILERS. Don't click if you haven't read it yet.
