Grad students!

Dear M,
Thanks for the heads-up.
By the way, the diss[ertation] instructions on the registrar's website emphasize the 350 word limitation. Any excess will be chopped off mid-sentence. But the instructions don't indicate whether this limitation includes or excludes the introductory info (title, name of institution, name of author).
In my case, the abstract text is just under 350, but with the other stuff counted, it exceeds 350. Of course I could delete a sentence. But you may recall that in the film Amadeus, Mozart responded to criticism from the official court composer that he used "too many notes" by asserting that that he used neither too few nor too many, but just the right number. That's how I feel about my abstract text.
Could you please check and let me know?
I told M that if I ever get to sounding that way she has my permission to shoot me in the back and laugh heartily over my bleeding, bloody corpse. Or not so much. But still, it makes me glad I'm getting out with a MA, rather than getting sucked in to the horror that is being a doctoral student.
Suck, suck, suck!
Jul. 13th, 2004 02:51 pmWhy must I work? I mean really? I could certainly find better things to do with myself given the opportunity. Things like exploring The Sugar Quill as much as I want to. Because it is so incredibly worth it. But work interferes and then there's that darned school thing. Oh, and the fixing-up-the-house thing. And even the whole having to shop for food and cook food and clean up from cooking the food. And working out. And showering. And laundering clothes. And brushing teeth. Seriously – it's a wonder I have time for anything at all. Grump. Best to get in as much Sugar Quill as I can before chooseing to have kids, yes?
I haven't watched it (yet), but I have a copy of Harry Potter PoA on DVD sitting at home... RIGHT NOW (I borrowed it from a friend who got it from, well, not entirely legal sources. Sources that evade the law and tend not to report all of their income sort of sources. I don't question these things. I just go with them. I can rationalize it since I'm planning on buying the movie the day it's released into stores.). I could be at home watching PoA and reading The Sugar Quill.
So what am I doing here?
