Pictures of Lindsay's Grandma's house.

See between the trees, where the path curves around? That's the house.

This was the weekend she was moving in, before the porch lights had been installed. Real slate tiles on the roof.

Wraparound porch, with glass sliding door entryway

When you step into the house from the sliding doors you're immediately in the living room, with the bedroom sliding sort-of-shoji-panels directly opposite.

Once in the living room, the dining nook is directly to the right.

The kitchen is on the other side of the living room and across from the dining nook.

Standing in the dining nook, looking across the living room to the kitchen.

And finally, the amazing ceiling

I'm always calmed by this house.

Oh! That is so beautiful!!!! Gorgeous!

And someone from HGTV did this?

My Aunt and Uncle had the house built to their specs, and my grandmother wrote to Kenneth Brown, who had a show called reDesign on HGTV up until this fall. Kenneth agreed to decorate the house for one of his episodes. My Aunt&Uncle paid for the materials used in the decoration and they had a lot of say in the final design ideas - at first Kenneth suggested an all-white look that would have been completely moronic considering two dogs and my kindergarten-aged cousin go traipsing through there all the time. The show aired on HGTV while Bryan and I (and my mom and Bryan's parents) were on a vacation together over the summer, so I never even got to see the show. :(

I'm so sorry about your Grandma. :(

I'm in love with her house. It's perfect, harmonious, soothing. I can see why it has always calmed you. Hang in there.

Is this the house that Kenneth Brown did? I was wondering Saturday, while I was watching his show, when it was going to be on!

Ohmygoodness, what an amazing house. All it needs is some tatami mats, and you're transported straight to Japan!
