Stay away, far, far away

lindsaydotcomSo last week in class one of the gals who works at Cal Poly said to me "hey, I saw a picture of you in our Summer newsletter." To which I eloquently replied "hunh?" "yeah, there's a picture of you recruiting on campus." I started to get excited, remembering that last time I was there for the grad school fair the photographer spent some time snapping pictures of our table. "Really? What's it like? Do I look okay?" Because, after all, that's the tantamount concern, right? Screw whether or not I look like I'm representing the university well, it's all about me. She said I looked fine, and that she would bring a couple of copies in for me.
She brought them in to class last night. I took a cursory glance to see that what I was wearing looks normal (blue shirt, black leather jacket, hair pulled back behind my head, standing right behind the University table and banner), whew – all good on that end! And then I saw my expression. Oh. My. God. I have an expression on that... well... if little children saw it they'd burst into tears and run away.
Granted, it was apparently taken right in the middle of me talking to someone, and I tend to get fairly animated so I probably was just about to smile or change my expression or something. But holy crumb – I look freakish! Seriously, it's absurd. It looks like I’m in the middle of putting a hex on some prospective students and cackling devilishly while doing so. "I'll get you, my pretties!"
And the best part is that now all the students who read the newsletter who are considering going to the grad fair this year will undoubtedly think to themselves, oh, let's stay away from that XXX University table – they have freakish people working for them. If we go there we'll get hexed.
