A whole lot of...

Marie: for offering me the use of your apartment when we're in NY. I won't be using it since we're staying with my aunt, but that was seriously a lovely gesture. I'm also sorry that the moons weren't aligned for us and we're going to miss each other by 1 day. :(
Sandra: for booking rooms at a Bed and Breakfast called "The Greatful Bed" when we're recruiting in Northern CA. Hee! And for promising to take me to Maki next time we're in San Francisco.
Linda: for one of the nicest chats I've had in a while.
Vanessa at Curves: the 80s flashback CD you made for me rocks! And I'm happy to see that you agree that Aha's Take on Me is one of the best songs to come from that era.
Target: for carrying cute, girly, strappy shoes in my size on clearance for just $4.29. I officially have strappy shoes for the first time in my life.
Patience: for reminding me of something I loved, but had forgotten about. Notice that I changed my journal title appropriately.
Miss Alli of TWoP: for getting me asolutely hooked on a tv show... that I don't even watch. And for having the BEST diet journal EVER.
Keely: for wanting to bring Leona over to see the place. And Xan, too. Finally. ;)
My grandmother: for reminding me that there's always a new adventure out there, and even if you're in your nineties you should go seek it out. Especially then.
Everyone at work: for doing your jobs! This is one of the few positions I've been in where I can actually say that everyone does what they're supposed to!
Messieur Blackie: for looking so bright-eyed each morning when I get to work and feed you. For having such a glossy coat and a loud purr. For trying to run into my office each day so you can attack my laptop and swish around my legs while I do my work.
Jamie: for volunteering to bring brownies next time we get together. Oh, I didn't ask? Whoops! Consider this my kindly request. PLEEEEAAAAASSSSSEEEE!!
Bryan: for reminding me that even if we're not both on the same page, we're still in the same chapter in the same book. And there's an awful lot of books out there to choose from, so that's a good thing. And for making me laugh, most especially at myself.
and...
RD: Yes, I know you're a professor and thus deserving of respect. But that passive aggressive thing? Not my style. And that uber-flattery thing? Not buying it in the slightest.
Admitted applicants who don't tell us your decision: care to, oh, I don't know, let us know what's going on?!? We respect you, you respect us. That's all I ask.
The neighbors: I know he's a high school and all, but could your son please NOT park in front of our house every single day? You have ample room in front of your yard for his car and his motorcycle, so please use that. And while we're on the suject, neither of us appreciates the fact that he pulls into our driveway to turn around and leaves tire marks on our driveway. And oh yes, I DID witness it, so refrain from blaming someone else. And what the heck - one other thing. I know you love your dogs. I'm a pet person - I love dogs too. Just not your dog. Because your dog is insane. His growl/whine/snarl/rabies-sounding noise is really rather disturing. Especially at 4:30 in the morning.
Student in my class: I realize you're toward the end of your degree program, so your attention span is somewhat limited. Got it. And I realize that you are technically in another program that is historically, how shall we put it... not quite so research focused? Sure, got that, too. But sitting through twenty or thirty hours of class discussion and still not even understanding the basic concepts of the class? You get no pass from me on that one. Pay attention. Listen. And stop internalizing everything we say. Believe it or not, it's not all about you. If not I might be forced to belt out Carly Simon next time I see you.
Just saying.
