SO remember that post earlier in the week where I was gushing about how happy I was that I was able to help someone out, especially someone whose circumstances seem like they could use some nice stuff? I've changed my mind. She's a shmuck.

I sent her my cell phone number as a reply to her email, asking her to call so we could set up a time for the exchange. She didn't call. I called back, and she made an excuse that her kid was sick and had needed to ba taken to the doctore. Sure, I understand, I've got a lot of friends with young kids. No problem. She said her dad was going to pick it up, and she'd find out what days/times it can happen and call me back. I waited a couple of days and heard nothing. I finally got a call from her on Thursday asking to schedule the exchange for Friday afternoon, and by the way, could she also take the lawnmower off my hands that we'd listed on freecycle as well? I said that would be fine and emailed her the directions to my house. To make it easier on him I even said come anytime after 4pm, that we would stay in and wait for him. Friday afternoon came and went, and no one arrived. I called her and asked what happened and she said her dad got help up at work and couldn't make it and she had to run to the store and had just gotten back and was about to call me. Un hunh. She said that her dad would definitely come Saturday morning at whatever time was convenient to us, though, and what time would work? I said 9 am would be best and she said she'd talk to her dad and call me back within 15 minutes. No call, no confirmation, and no one came to the house at 9 or any other time yesterday morning, but just to make sure I waited at home with cell phone handy from 9 am until after 1 pm. No calls, no emails, no correspondance of any kind. So screw her and her excuses. I called a donation center and they're going to come pick it up during the week.

I don't get how freecycle works. I mean, literally, the site. Lost.

Most people, I think, don't use the site. We all sign up to an email listserve, and whenever someone has something they don't want they send an email to the group offering it. Generally, several people respond, and the offerer chooses who to give the item to and they make arrangements via email. COnversely, people can post things they want and see if anyone responds. It's all through regionally local groups, so it's not like anyone is too far away to transact with.
